Former President John F. Kennedy was posthumously inducted as a Distinguished Member of the Special Forces Regiment in Pinehurst, North Carolina on April 11. The ceremony honored his visionary support for Special Forces and his enduring influence on modern warfare.
This commemorative coin captures a pivotal moment in Special Forces history—President Kennedy’s meeting with Brigadier General William P. Yarborough, known as the "Father of the Green Berets," at Fort Bragg in October 1961. This visit marked a turning point, solidifying Kennedy’s commitment to developing a counterinsurgency force that would become the Green Berets.
At the time, General Yarborough was serving as commander of the Army’s Special Warfare Center and School, where he played a critical role in shaping the doctrine, training, and identity of U.S. Army Special Forces.
